How are diode lasers different from other surgical tools?

Diode lasers are different from using a scalpel or electrosurge as only the very tip can cut. Dragging or using the side of the laser fiber is less efficient than small feather light movement with the very tip of the laser fiber.

What billing codes do you use for laser assisted procedures?

Laser assisted procedures do not have specific codes billing codes. Like all procedures, billing codes are determined by procedure, not by the tools used to perform a procedure.

What are the advantages of having a diode laser?

Today’s bonding techniques require total control over the operative site. A diode laser ensures the ability to achieve that. No other instrument available to the dentist has had the capability of such Sterling tissue sculpting. The diode laser is the least traumatic of all competing and conventional instruments. Sterling Diode Lasers are affordable and small enough for every practice, simple to operate and easily learned and incorporated into your practice.

How has laser dentistry affected patient care?

Laser Dentistry has created a new level of quality dental care. The ability to perform more procedures in less time without sacrificing patient care and comfort are an important advantage over other technologies. Lasers benefit a variety dental specialties and patients. Lasers can be used near metal crowns, on patients with pacemakers, braces, on teeth with metal amalgams, and in procedures near bone with no contraindications. Patients report that laser treatments are gentle in comparison with an electrosurge and is substantially less invasive therefore generates less bleeding during the procedure. Lasers are predictable, STERLING with little or no recession, swelling, necrosis, quicker healing, and reduce the need for sutures.

What should I tell patients why I use a laser?

Many patients are very technologically savvy these days. Many may simply say it’s about time. For those patients less technologically inclined simply tell them lasers are the most Sterling, least traumatic, and will heal with less post-operative pain than any other technique. There is less chance of infection, and some soft tissue procedures around the gingiva can be completed without anesthesia.

How will it pay for itself?

When the Sterling Diode Laser is used, it saves chair time. It makes procedures more effective and simplified because of the complete hemostasis and lack of suturing required. Adding just one frenectomy or fibroma each month will generate more income than the payment for the laser. Many practitioners will be able to add new billable procedures that will reduce referrals and keep procedures in-office.

Does my office need to institute a laser safety program?

According to both the ANSI and OSHA, practices that integrate Class IV lasers in clinical procedures must appoint a Medical Safety Officer. Additional requirements may differ from state to state on the implementation of a laser safety program to assure a safe environment for both workers and patients. It is best to have written procedures in this regard. CAO Group, Inc. recommends adoption of a Laser Safety program and appointment of a Laser Safety Officer.

Do you have a loaner Program?

Yes! We don’t want you to miss a single procedure. If your laser needs service while under warranty CAO will provide a loaner at no charge. A loaner will also be available for a reasonable fee after the warranty period. Contact Customer Care for details (877) 236-4408.

As each clinical situation is unique, the appropriate power setting is primarily determined by the type of procedure to be performed. For example, a more fibrotic tissue requires higher power. The speed of cutting desired by the operator will also determine the power intensity selected, it is always best to use the lowest power setting that will effectively modify the tissue while avoiding tissue charring.
